Obituary

MADISON - Marlyn Marie Hodges, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Kettle Park Senior Living. She was born on August 20, 1935, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Clair and Margaret (Hickox) Brazee.

Marlyn "Mar" graduated from Central High School in 1953. She married Richard Hodges in Madison, Wis., on November 15, 1958. In addition to raising her family, Marlyn enjoyed and loved her career of 25 years as a secretary at La Follette High School.  Mar was also a staunch supporter of La Follette Lancer sporting events.  In her free time, she enjoyed camping with family and traveling the United States.  One of Mar’s favorite destinations was Canada.  She also enjoyed camping and canoeing with neighbors, Pat and Ed Germann, and brother and sister-in-law, Don and Erva Chisman. Each year Richard and Mar would enjoy a month in Florida with the Florida group which included several friends from La Follette.  Those friends include Murial (Rodger) Zwicky, Pete Olson, Irv Kennedy and other friends, Ron and Shirly Noyce, Ron and Fran Swann.  Mar also enjoyed reading, crafts, watching the birds (cardinals, finches), playing cards, especially euchre and cribbage.  Marlyn always had a smile on her face.  She loved being around people and having a fun time.  Everyone who met her loved her.  Even in her final weeks the care staff always commented on how pleasant and sweet she was.

Marlyn is survived by her husband, Richard; daughters; Laura (Robert) Beale and Marcy (Doug) Marquis; son, James (Sue) Hodges; grandchildren, Shannon (Brady) Neuman, Matt Beale, Trent (Meghan) Beale, Wade Beale, Morgan Marquis, Sydney Hodges, Drew (Nicole) Easland and Joshua Easland; great-grandchildren, Jameson, Kashton, Colt, Hazel, Leighton, Emerson and Quinten; brother, Gene Brazee; sisters, Janice Newman and Elaine Brazee; other relatives and friends. I remember being a young girl and my parents allowing me to attend Aunt Mar and Uncle Dick's wedding. It was the first time I went to a grown up wedding, and I thought it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Rest in peace, Aunt Mar. Nancy Carlisle Locke
