MOUNT HOREB - Our mom always had a story to tell and a song to sing. We mourn the end of her tales and music. Margaret Halen Twiton, aged 90, of Mount Horeb, Wis., and formerly of Brainerd, Minn., passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, at Beehive Home in Mount Horeb. She was born on September 17, 1934, in Minneapolis, Minn., to John and Violet Halen.

Margaret graduated from Elgin (Ill.) High School, and attended St. Olaf College, the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and Augsburg College, where she received a BA in English. She married Robert Twiton on October 29, 1955, at Central Lutheran Church in Madison. Pastor Bob and Margaret served churches in North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, and retired to South Long Lake near Brainerd, Minn. She served as the choir director in many of these churches.

Margaret loved telling stories. She created and performed dramatic monologues and was featured in many community theatre productions in Brainerd. An excellent cook, she treasured feeding people and testing out new recipes. She had a passion for writing, sewing, knitting, gardening, and dogs.

Survivors include her children, Beth (Randy Janssen) of Trempealeau, Barb Bower of Minneapolis, Minn., Pastor John (Diane) Twiton of Mount Horeb and Joan (Will Henderson) of Woodbury, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Erik Janssen, Matt (Melanie Lombard) Bower, Halen Bower, Pastor Andy (Kristin Swedlund) Twiton, Hannah Twiton, Thomas (Cheyenne) Twiton, Joshua Henderson and Jacob Henderson; two great-grandchildren, Miriam and Gabriel Swedlund-Twiton; two bonus daughters, Yukiko Katsumata of Tokyo and Maria (Jim) Janicki of Hickory, N.C.; bonus grandchildren, Manabu Katsumata and Emily Janicki; and nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband; parents; parents-in-law, Russell and Dora Twiton; sister-in-law, Dorothy Twiton; sister- and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert Bosben; and son-in-law, Paul Bower.

A funeral service will be held at EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025. Your parents, Pastor Bob & Margaret, in their ministry at Barneveld Lutheran Church were a great inspiration and guide to us. Our first call was to Hollandale just before the tornado. We witnessed in them the importance of long-term, faithful ministry. What a gift! What a loss for all of you now! What examples to live on in you!
