Obituary

MADISON - Gary Lee Geil, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on November 17, 1946, in Monroe, Wis., the son of Ivan and Erma (Miller) Geil.


Gary graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1964. He married Joanne Campbell on August 28, 1965, in Oregon, Wis. He worked as a Regional General Sales Manager for both Pan of Gold and Gardner Bakery, retiring in 2008.


Gary loved spending time with family and friends and was looking forward to his first great-grandchild, expected in May 2025.


Gary is survived by his wife, Joanne; sons, Bryan (Janell) Geil and Charles (Denean) Geil; grandkids, Kyle Geil, Jordan (Ava) Geil, Hailey Geil, Riley (Jamie) Geil, Carley Geil and Mitchell Geil; siblings, Virginia (Paul) Killerlain and Kathy Cass (Phil) Elmore; brother-in-law, Terry (Ida) Campbell; and sister-in-law, Jean Sherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erma and Ivan; parents-in-law, Marvin and Beatrice Campbell; granddaughter, Ashley Geil; and brothers-in-law, Jimmy Cass and James Sherman.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, with the Rev. Elisa Brandt presiding. Burial will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.


The family would like to thank the Cardiac staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for their outstanding care.
