Mount Horeb - Janet Elaine “Jan” Hirsch, age 75, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, at UW Hospital and Clinics. She was born on July 14, 1949, the daughter of James and Dorothy Dawson.
Jan grew up in the Chicago/Stoughton area and graduated from Stoughton High School. In addition to being a loving housewife, she enjoyed a long career at WPS, retiring as a supervisor. Jan met her life partner Gary in Plymouth, and they went on to spend the next 36 years together. She adored her dogs and enjoyed flower gardening. Jan was an avid card player and enjoyed watching TV, especially crime shows like NCIS and Law & Order; she was especially fond of the card game “Spite and Malice”. Jan was an amazing cook and loved baking. Jan enjoyed the holidays and decorating for Christmas. Jan could always be counted on for a healthy dose of sarcasm along with a cup of coffee.
She is survived by her daughter, Alexis (Russell) Baker; sons, James (Brooke) Neeley, Marcus (Sandy Powers) Neeley and Matthew (Tracy) Neeley; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her significant other, Gary Michalski; mother, Dorothy Thompson; brothers, Jerry, Jene (Patricia), James (CJ), Robert (Jane), John and Virgil (Cheryl); sisters, Joyce and Wanda (Kim); sisters-in-law, Nancy, Cindy, Jeanne and Geraldine; brother-in-law, Lonnie; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, James Dawson; sister, Judy; brother, Jay; and sister-in-law, Rebecca.
A memorial service will be held at Gunderson Camacho Mount Horeb Funeral and Cremation Care, 500 N. 8th St., Mount Horeb, at 2 p.m. on Sunday April 13, 2025, with Rev. Katya Ouchakof presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service on Sunday.
