Obituary
Lodi/Portage - John Thompson, age 67, of Portage, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 31, 2025.
He was born on April 5, 1957, in Madison, WI, the son of Al and Nancy (Hutchins) Thompson.
John was a 1975 graduate of Lodi High School. Following high school, he joined the Peace Corp in Costa Rica where he was able to share his love of music and play tuba in the San Jose Symphony Orchestra.
John started his career as a carpenter- including designing and building his own homes. Following that, he was employed by Wisconsin Building Supply Co as a Truss Designer, retiring in 2024.
John enjoyed many different hobbies and collections, including coaching volleyball, music, and photography. John enjoyed taking trips on his motorcycle and taking photos of the surrounding scenery. He loved most spending time with his family, including coaching his daughter while she was growing up, and cheering for his granddaughters’ at their sporting events.
Survivors include his daughter, Evelyn (Jason) Jansen and their daughters, Madelyn and Amelia; his mother Nancy; his uncle and aunt, Ed (Gwen) Hutchins; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by father, Albert John Thompson, Jr.; his brother, Kevin; and his aunt and uncle, Sharon and Jim Hutchins.
Memorial Service will be held at Gunderson Lodi Funeral & Cremation Care, 157 S. Main St., Lodi, at 11:00 am on Wednesday April 9, 2025, with Chaplain Dan Pulsfus presiding. Visitation will be held at Gunderson Lodi Funeral & Cremation Care from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, and also on Weds. from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
