Obituary
OREGON - It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Sonja on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Hof, Germany to Liddi Lochner, Sonja was the youngest of three children. She married David Sievers and they had two children together, Barry and Mark. Sonja moved from Germany to Italy and finally settled in the U.S. in 1974. After military stops in Omaha and Biloxi, the family relocated to Wisconsin.
Sonja met Kerry Henriksen in 1991, and they married in Oregon, on the golf course where they first met. Sonja cherished her many years of work at Zimbrick before retiring in 2018. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and socializing with her many friends. Sonja and Kerry enjoyed their Florida vacations after retirement.Spending quality time with her two sons and three grandchildren, and having family poolside cookouts and holiday dinners were her favorites. She loved attending many soccer games over the years to watch her grandchildren play. She cooked many delicious German meals, which she learned from her “Mutti.” Sonja was very proud of her German heritage and childhood upbringing. She was always there to lend an ear and a helping hand.
Sonja organized a breast cancer golf benefit for the past 24 years, raising over $200,000, for breast cancer research, and was looking forward to the 25th event in September. She was always willing to help raise money for a good cause. She would be there with a smile and a hug.
Sonja is survived by her beloved husband, Kerry; son, Mark Sievers (Cindy Schlough); grandchildren, David Sievers (Jennifer De Leon), Addison Sievers and Emma Sievers; sister-in-law, Kathy Chapelle (Don), nieces, nephews, German relatives, and cherished friends who will miss her unconditional love and kindness. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Barry Sievers; mother, Liddi Lochner; brothers, Heinz Opitz and Adolf Opitz; father-in-law, Lee Henriksen; and mother-in-law, Lennie Henriksen.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, followed by a light meal where family and friends can gather, share memories, and provide comfort and support during a difficult time. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
