Obituary

STOUGHTON - Diane Marie Venden, age 75, of Stoughton, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025. She was born on January 24, 1950, in Stoughton, the daughter of Olin and Dorothy (Garfoot) Venden.

Diane graduated from Stoughton High School in 1968, where she was proud of being a drum majorette in the band.  Diane worked at the UW-Madison Campus in various departments, then transitioned to St. Mary's, where she worked as a medical transcriptionist, earned a degree as a Respiratory Therapist and worked for a short time as a respiratory therapist. Diane always kept in touch with her work colleagues and created opportunities to renew friendships, and her warm and compassionate personality lent to gaining new friends.

Diane loved laughing and loved helping people and working on community projects. She was a volunteer EMT in Sun Prairie and the first female in the Sun Prairie Lion's Club. She also volunteered for CampHERO, a diabetes camp for children diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Diane loved listening to local musicians and attending many live music events, near and far. She loved going to the Stoughton Opera House and other local venues for special events and traveling with friends and family.

Diane is survived by her sister, Louise (Sally Deane) Venden; nephew, Nate (Rinn Mandeville) Beyer; great-niece, Zoe Beyer; “special” cousin, Sue Small; and special friends, Jim Moeser and Jodie Vanderzanden. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Norman Venden and Jim Strickland; and twin brothers, Harlan and Harold Venden.

A celebration of life is being planned for Sunday, June 15, 2025, at East Side Park, 225 S. Lynn St., Stoughton, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I knew Diane from the Sun Prairie Lions Club as I was the second woman inducted into the club. I followed her leadership and guidance since this club was new to having "women" as club members. Diane was strong in her community leadership with the Lions and I know her involvement helped me stay involved knowing that if Diane was there I could do this. When Diane left the Lions, a hole was left in my heart to continue her servant leadership for others in the Sun Prairie Community. Thank you Diane for what you taught me, you have been missed for a long time but will never be forgotten. Lifting your family up in prayer as they grieve your life but remember the life well lived.
