Obituary

MADISON - Margaret Dolores McNamara, age 95, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Skaalen Nursing and Rehabilitation in Stoughton. She was born on July 24, 1929, in Albany, Wis., the daughter of Francis J. and Margaret (Lawrence) Dunphy.


Margaret received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from St. Mary’s in Milwaukee. She worked as a registered nurse in Milwaukee, San Francisco and Madison. She was united in marriage to David W. McNamara on February 20, 1960, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Madison. She was a longtime member of St. Dennis Catholic Church.


Margaret enjoyed traveling in her 20s, going to military reunions with her husband and later traveling with her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, strawberry and apple picking with her sisters and friends, baking apple and rhubarb pies, cranberry bread and cookies, making jam, and growing her Better Boy tomatoes. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and loved celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with her relatives. She enjoyed dining out with family and friends and playing softball with her grandchildren. She also loved watching the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers football, basketball and hockey.


Margaret is survived by her daughters, Doreen McNamara (Brent Reznik) and Nancy Wright (Donovan); grandchildren, Ethan and Elsa Wright; sister, Sharron Gehrig (Jule); brother-in-law, Roger Klett; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David McNamara; parents, Margaret and Francis; brother, Lawrence Dunphy; and sisters, Mary Klett, Bernie France, Nidge Petersen, Phyllie Aeschliman and Joann Germann


A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025.


Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Skaalen and Agrace for their wonderful care and to her thoughtful neighbors, Gary and Valerie, for their care and concern.
