MONONA - Joan M. Maier, age 90, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025. She was born on August 26, 1934, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., the daughter of Aloysius and Mildred (Granzow) Lechnir.


Joan graduated from Prairie du Chien High School and then moved to Madison after graduation. In Madison, she met her husband, Jerome Maier and they married on November 21, 1959, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman, Wis. Joan was a devoted homemaker and later was employed by Tymeshare and also Valley Bank/M&l Bank until she retired in 1999.


Joan is survived by her son, David (Carla) Maier of Verona; and daughter, Judith (Tim Breunig) Maier of Monona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; parents, Aloysius and Mildred; her sisters, Dorothy Lechnir, Aileen Fischer and Jean Clatworthy; and brother, Robert Lechnir.

Dave and Judy—I am so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. You were blessed to have her presence in your lives for many years, and I am sure her death leaves a big hole in your lives that hopefully will soon be filled with happy memories of the life of this lovely lady. I know my brother-in-law and sister, your late Uncle Eddie and Aunt Lou, were so fond of Joan, believed that not just your dad but the whole Maier family were lucky ducks to have Joan as part of their clan! Dear Judy & Tim and Dave &Carla, It's with sadness that I write to you about your Mom's passing. My heart goes out to each of you. Joan was a good friend with whom I worked with for a number of years at the bank. She, Claudette and I often went to lunch together during those days. After your mom retired we continued to get together from time to time. I will always think of her as a kind and sweet friend and the fun we had together, enjoying good conversation and laughter.
