Obituary

MADISON - With her family and friends by her side, Pilar Castillo Reyes peacefully left this world on March 18, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital, and was lovingly guided to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born on April 10, 1945, in Manila, Philippines, Pilar was the daughter of Dr. Narciso Tantoco Reyes and Natividad Castillo Gaughan (Reyes). She was a proud graduate of College of the Holy Spirit in Manila, where she built lifelong friendships from grade school through college.

Pilar was married to Virgilio Lunaria and was blessed with one daughter, Rowena Lunaria Koschkee-the greatest joy and pride of her life. She built a career with American Family Insurance, dedicating over two decades to her work.

Pilar was a faithful Catholic and family and friends were the heart of Pilar’s life. A devoted member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Madison, she found strength in her deep Catholic faith. She shared her love through food, always bringing people together with her home-cooked dishes and gifting food to those she cared for. Her appreciation for the performing arts was undeniable-she adored Broadway shows and never missed a chance to enjoy all the local performances with family and friends. She loved to sing, dance, and hum along to music.

Above all, Pilar cherished time spent with family and friends. She was a loving mother to Rowena (Rodney) Koschkee of Lake Geneva and a proud grandmother to Sidney Koschkee of Illinois. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Lou Galvez, Irene Medina and Jaime Reyes (Beth); as well as countless in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were like family to her.

She is now reunited in heaven with her parents, husband; siblings Ramon, Marita, Tony, Tito, Manuel, and Roberto; along with her beloved in-laws.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Pilar’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of St. Mary’s Hospital, as well as Father Pat, who provided her with the final rites and the anointing of the sick before she took Jesus’ hand and journeyed home and to Gunderson Funeral Home for their kindness.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Memory of Pilar Reyes to the William Guy Forbeck Research Foundation, supporting groundbreaking cancer research-a cause close to her and her daughter’s heart. Contributions may be made at wgfrf.org/donate.

Pilar’s legacy is one of kindness, and generosity. In her memory, she would want everyone to embrace life with an open heart and be kind to all you meet.
