John Bernard Sylte

STOUGHTON - John B. Sylte, age 99, of Stoughton, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Stoughton Meadows. He was born on November 10, 1925, in Marietta, Ohio, the son of Melvin and Helen (McKibben) Sylte.

John graduated from Lakewood High School in 1944. He was united in marriage to Tania "Toni" Sylte on February 25, 1956. John worked for General Motors as a foreman, and he retired in 1980. He went on to work as a truck driver for Monroe Trucking, retiring in 2014, at the age of 88. He was very handy and able to fix most anything, especially car repairs.

John proudly served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was a member of the VFW in Lockport, Ill. He loved traveling to Hawaii and taking trips in the summer with his kids to destinations all over the United States. He will be fondly remembered for his love of sailing for many years, hunting and trap shooting. Later in life he was a devoted and dedicated caregiver to Toni.

John will be missed by his daughter, Natalie (Don) Marmor; son, James (Teresa) Sylte; four grandchildren, Bobby (Emily) Dobroski, Mark (Jacinda) Dobroski, Kai Sylte and Noah Sylte; great-grandchildren, Ashton and William Dobroski; and brother, Richard (Janie) Sylte. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tania "Toni" Sylte; parents, Melvin and Helen; brother, Robert Sylte; and sister, Carrie Ferris.

A funeral service will be held at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 310 E. Washington St., Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, with the Rev. Sarah Ehrets presiding. Burial will follow at Lutheran South Cemetery where military rites will be conducted.
 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the START program in Stoughton. The family wishes to thank the staff of Stoughton Meadows, Common Heart Hospice and friends and family for all of their wonderful care and support given to John and his family.
