Obituary

MONTELLO - Ronald J. Syphard, age 85, of Montello, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital in Portage, Wis. He was born on September 23, 1939, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Russell and Mary (Latronica) Syphard.

Ronald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, reaching the rank of SP4, and was a proud disabled vet. Prior to his retirement in 2001, he worked as a machinist in the field of cryogenics, most recently for the Astronautics Corporation. He also worked as an EMT for the Deer Grove EMS District.

In his free time, Ronald enjoyed fishing, traveling, marathon running and repairing small appliances. He also studied the Bible extensively, loved old Westerns, and enjoyed the music of Neil Diamond.

Grandpa loved spending time with his family and friends, including his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved making Grandma Syphard’s famous chicken and dumplings for the whole crew. We are sure going to miss him dearly.

Ronald is survived by his son, Ronald Syphard, son, Michael (Robin) Syphard, daughter, Michelle (Gregory) Gleich, daughter, Angela (Cory) Rinden, son, Aaron Syphard, daughter, Rachael Wilson and daughter, Sarah Syphard; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mary Syphard; brother, Gary Syphard; sister-in-law, Pat Syphard; and grandson, Nicolas Gleich.

A funeral service will be held at CALVARY CHAPEL, 4702 E. Broadway, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, with Pastor Jeff Solwold presiding. Burial will be held at the Town of Dunn Burying Ground. Visitation will be held at the chapel from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

Dad loved to say, “I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.”
