Obituary

SUN PRAIRIE - James A. Ziegler, 50, of Sun Prairie, passed away unexpectedly from complications of a heart attack on March 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1974, James grew up on a farm, where he learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family. His love for sports began early, both playing at Middleton High School, and later travelling with his fastpitch softball team. He also enjoyed the Badgers and Packers, but nothing brought him more joy than cheering on his daughters from the sidelines.

In 1999, he married the love of his life, Tonya, and together they built a family. James was a dedicated father to his daughters, Macy and Margo, who were the pride and joy of his life.

A talented carpenter, James owned his own construction business and spent over 30 years perfecting his craft. Whether building homes or helping family and friends with their construction projects, he was always willing to lend a hand. His generosity, skill, and kindness left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

James is survived by his beloved daughters, Macy and Margo; his parents, Tony and Elaine Ziegler; his sister, Brenda; his brothers, Matt (Abbey) and AJ (Jackie); his cherished nieces and nephews, Jessica, Sydney, Bella, Lee, Brielle, Greyson, and Henry; his ex-wife, Tonya; and the whole Faust family. He will also be dearly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lillian and Edmund Acker and Alphonse and Elizabeth Ziegler; his Uncle Clem; his Aunt Evie; his Uncle Harold; and father-in-law, Toot.

James will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his love of sports. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with a service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, with Deacon Craig Wood presiding. Please consider wearing your favorite sports or Christmas apparel on Sunday.

His family would like to thank all the wonderful doctors and nurses in the Cardiac ICU at UW Hospital.

James was always a fun guy to be around! I always remember laughing a lot and cracking jokes. He will be greatly missed. It was a blessing to have had him as a cousin! I will be grieving alongside you all! My prayer is that the Lord will comfort the family in this time of grief! 2 Corinthians 1:4: “who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” ‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭4‬ ‭LOVE & Miss you all!

Thinking of Macy and Margo today. Wishing them to be surrounded by the love and strength of their family, friends, and loved ones. Jamie always had a twinkle in his eyes when talking about his girls. There are not strong enough words for this loss. Much love to you all! Cheri (Kvalo) Jirovec and Family
