Obituary

FALL RIVER - Kay Marie Emerson, age 67, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. She was born on July 18, 1957, in Madison, the daughter of Willard and Shirley (Leisch) Mueller. At a young age, Kay was diagnosed with a rare disease called PKU. Even though she struggled with the disease, she lived life to the fullest.


Kay graduated from Madison West High School in 1975 and Edgewood College in 1980. She married David Emerson on September 8, 1985.


Kay had a passion for animals and loved all of her pets from her cats to her birds, to her dogs. In her younger years, she enjoyed crocheting.


Kay will be missed by her husband, David; and brother, Keith Mueller. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Scott Mueller.

Kay was in a class with me at West High School. She was an absolutely wonderful person. I’ve never forgotten when she told us of her being THE first person treated effectively for PKU, plus how Dr. Waisman made it possible for her to live a much better life through a rigorous diet to limit the effects of PKU. I’m deeply saddened to read of her passing - she was a very special person. I’ll never forget Kay.

Kay and I became friends in junior high and she taught me a great deal about embracing your differences. I really enjoyed her lighthearted humor, gentle spirit and sincerity. Her honesty allowed me to see the world from a different perspective and she took the time to reach connection. I was hoping to see you at our 50th, I will miss getting and giving that hug my friend.
