Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE - David Frank Conrad, age 79, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025.

David was a wonderful giving man, living his life the way he chose from the beginning to the end. He was born on December 21, 1945, in Madison, Wis., attended Monona Grove, and graduated in 1964. He continued onto MATC and became a master electrician. He worked on many major projects throughout the United States, from the top of Wisconsin state capitol down to Walt Disney World, even installing the highest lights on the coal stacks in Portage.

David dedicated his life to his community. He volunteered as a Cottage Grove Fireman for many years, participated in the Lions Club, and like his father was a proud member and Vice President of the Local IBEW 159 electricians’ union.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and especially boating down the Mississippi with friends and family. As an avid member of the Madison Sail and Power Squadron, David helped promote boating safety and education for over 30 years. Another fun fact, he would never miss a good poker game with his friends, he always said "you got to play to win!" He wasn’t a man of many words, but when he had a grin, you knew he was up to something!

David married the love of his life, Gloria Glee Conrad (Osborn), on June 28, 1969. He absolutely adored her. They were always hand-in-hand, two peas in a pod. They traveled the world together, making many lasting memories.

We say his journey may be over, but we will always carry on his love in our hearts and smiles forever. David is survived by his wife, Gloria; two children, Scott Conrad and Heather Conrad; and four awesome grandkids, Isabella, Domenica, Skylar and Cash.

David and I spent a childhood together and had many great moments. From flying airplanes together to pilfering neighbors grapes, we laughed and giggled over many fun adventures. Baseball and football, neighborhood games and just sitting down to a penny-ante poker game with the 'gang' was so much fun. The memories are plentiful, along with his brother Harry, Jim Steinbeck, Ron Zitlow, Mike Jacobson, Ronnie Edwards, and others, we had a very fun and now-cherished childhood. Seeing David at last summers' MG reunion was a joy. Also, running into Heather at Toby's last year was so much fun. Reliving memories of our youth and all the happy times are what makes growing old very meaningful. We return to WI in May and if you choose, we could schedule a dinner at Toby's toasting David and a wonderful life. Jim Klinke 608-335-6060.
