MADISON - Lea Ann (Thormann) Thompson passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025. She was born on July 10, 1952, Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur Carl Thormann Jr. and Eleanor “Ellie” Marcella (Henderson) Carter.
Lea graduated from Regina High School, Class of 1970. She married James “Jim” Thompson on July 31, 1982, at St. Mary Church in Iowa City, Iowa.
Lea worked as a bank teller at Iowa State Bank and Trust (Midwest One Bank) in Iowa City, Iowa. Later she worked in hospitality as the front desk manager at the Canterberry Inn and Ironmen Inn in Coralville, Iowa. From 1985-1988 she worked as a credit union teller for Dupaco Community Credit Union in Dubuque, Iowa. From 1988-1992 she returned back to hospitality as a front desk manager at the Howard Johnson’s Hotel in Madison, Wis. From 1992-1994 she worked as an executive recruiter and from 1994-2015 she was self-employed as an image consultant for BeautiControl, retiring in 2015.
Lea is survived by her husband, James “Jim” Thompson of Madison, Wis.; brother, Dennis Carter (Katha) of Fayetteville, Ark., sister, Debbie Carter of North Liberty, Iowa; brother-in-law, Roger Hurmence of Robins, Iowa; aunts, Colleen Henderson, Iowa City, Iowa and Sherley Henderson of Ceder Rapids, Iowa; nieces, Amanda Johnson (Lionel) of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Sara Gilson (Brad) of Strawberry Point, Iowa, Shannon Innis (John) of Coralville, Iowa, Stephanie Boesenberg (Jim) of Ceder Rapids, Iowa, and Jamie Evans (Morgan) of North Liberty, Iowa; and great-nieces, Emma Johnson, Grace Johnson, Brenna Gilson, Ryan Boesenberg, Grace Evans and Casy Evans.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor “Ellie” Carter and Paul “Nick” Carter; biological father, Arthur Carl Thormann Jr.; sisters, Patti Hurmence and Janis Carter; brother, James “Jimmy” Carter; uncles, Richard “Dick” Henderson, Eugene Henderson, Robert Henderson and Donald Henderson; and aunt, Dorthy Henderson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Demspey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
