Obituary

MADISON - Helen Zugschwerdt, 89, of Madison, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025. She was born in Madison to Dr. Wendell and Esther Marsden.


Helen knew as a child she was going to be a nurse. Her father was a doctor, and her mother was a nurse. Helen attended nursing school in Chicago where she met her future husband, Don Zugschwerdt, a pharmacist. They married in 1958 and shared 62 years together before his passing in 2020. They have two surviving daughters, Nancy and Kathy (Jeff) both of Madison.


Besides her work and family, Helen was an avid golfer, gifted quilter, and loved traveling the world.


Helen will be missed by her surviving sisters, Julia Corbett and Dorothy (John) Hahn; sister-in-law, Karen Jaeger; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Anne Marsden and Margaret Hahn; and brothers-in-law, Thomas Corbett and Randall Winch.


Her final resting place is at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison, overlooking the golf course. Private family services will be held.

Helen was a kind caring sister. She was a role model for me, as I also became a nurse. We had more time together as our children grew up and had many trips to Iowa for the Bix Jazz festival. We will miss her. Dottie and John Hahn
