Obituary

MONONA - Elaine June Longseth, age 94, of Monona, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family. She was born on June 13, 1930, in Cobb, Wis., the daughter of John and Lena (Moseman) Urfer. She grew up on a dairy farm in rural Barneveld where her parents instilled a deep appreciation of her Swiss Heritage.

Elaine was a graduate of Barneveld Union Free High School in 1948. On September 4, 1954, she married Lawrence (LeRoy) Longseth in Barneveld, and together they enjoyed 70 years of marriage. Elaine and LeRoy moved to Monona in 1958 to raise their two young children, Julie and Larry, and to welcome their youngest daughter, Joni, in 1961. Family was her priority. Prior to her marriage Elaine worked as a stenographer for Blied Printing Company in downtown Madison. When her oldest child entered high school, she worked part time in the Monona School District as a cook in the school lunch program at Winnequah Middle School.

Elaine enjoyed cooking, baking and feeding people. Elaine was always a great host and wanted to make sure everyone was well fed. She was a member of the Madison East Seventh Day Adventist Church in Monona.  She found great comfort in reading her Bible, as her faith was very important to her.  She also loved flowers, especially lilacs, peonies and the rose bush in her backyard.  She was a member of Wisconsin Model A Restorers Club - Madison and Southern Wisconsin Area.  If you ever attended the Monona Memorial Day Parade, you probably saw Elaine and Leroy in one of their two Model As. They enjoyed traveling, camping with their children and grandchildren and their many Model A club tours around the Midwest. She was the happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

During the last several years of her life, she received excellent care from a number of dedicated, compassionate and unwavering caregivers. Her family wishes to thank Justyna from Good People as well as Mogi their first live in Caregiver, Tugu her most recent live in caregiver since June of 2022. Also, the many part time caregivers including Chrystal, Reva, Choi, Nara and Tume. Her family is also deeply grateful for the dedicated team at Agrace Hospice, with a special thanks to Mallory, her nurse of two years, Jennifer and all the many other RNs and staff who were available to us at all hours day or night.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Lawrence (LeRoy); daughters, Julie (Bob) Olson and Joni (Jim) Harris; grandchildren, Matthew (Sherri) Riggle, Misty Pilger, Tess Olson (Ryan Witizigmann), Joshua Harris, Joy Harris, Jaclyn Harris and Jonathon Harris; great-grandchildren, Forrest Riggle, Theodore Riggle, Carter Witzigmann and Sawyer Witzigmann; and the many friends, neighbors and relatives who visited her, bringing food, flowers, and special desserts.  You know who you are! She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry Longseth; brother, Harvey Urfer; and sisters, Dorothy Kelly and Irene Urfer.

A memorial service will be held at MADISON COMMUNITY SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH, 1926 Elka Lane, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, with a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held at the church form 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Elaine was much loved sister in law. I was not yet 6 years sold when she married my big brother Leroy! I was a miniature bridesmaid beside my next brother John as mini groomsman. She treated everyone with love, generosity and when needed, prayer. Elaine always loved news of my children and grandchildren. In tte past few years I was able to share them with her in photos when I visited. I thank God for joining Elaine to my brother and in so doing, to me. See you on the other side Elaine!!❤️❤️❤️🙏 Linda Kraemer

The best that your Mother was is now going forward in the caring goodness you bring to all the lives you touch while I did not really know your Mother, I did witness your deep love and care you gave her. May that loving bond strengthen and comfort you.
