SUN PRAIRIE - Garnet Arthur “Gar” Dawson, age 84, of Sun Prairie, WI, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on February 19, 2025, at Waunakee Valley Senior Living, Waunakee, WI.
Gar was born on May 7, 1940, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, to William and Kathleen (Rusk) Dawson. He grew up in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and earned a B.S. Degree in agriculture from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and an M.S. Degree in horticulture from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Residing in Madison for many years, Gar worked in business, landscape design, and horticulture. He was most recently employed by Gene’s Beaver Floral in Beaver Dam, WI. Among his many talents and interests were photography, travel, gardening, landscaping, painting, woodworking, and floral arrangement. He took pride in his home and beautiful oriental garden.
Gar will be remembered as a good friend and loving father and grandfather. He very much enjoyed sharing special occasions with his family. Survivors include his son, Richard (Kristen) Dawson of Medina, OH; daughter, Janet Dawson of Madison, WI; and his beloved grandchildren, John, Katherine, Lauren, and Madeleine Dawson of Medina, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, John Dawson, Reginald Dawson, and Neenah “Dawse” Graham.
A celebration of life for Mr. Dawson will be held at a date to be determined in the Summer of 2025, and internment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona, WI. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
