Obituary

MADISON - Paul M. Hill, age 77, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at UW Hospital West. He was cherished by his parents, Merit and Marie (Moeller) Hill. His parents and many cousins were influential in Paul becoming a very responsible, kind, understanding and loving person.

Paul graduated from East High School, Madison, and studied for three years at Madison Area Technical College, graduating with an associate’s degree in architectural engineering.

Paul and Christine Wyttenbach were married in April 1970, beginning a celebration of marriage that lasted almost 55 years. Blessed with two sons, they raised their children in a Madison home that they built in 1976, with help from Paul’s talented carpenter father. Their sons were only 5 years and 2 years old, so they tried to help too… by burying Paul’s tools while playing in the dirt in the backyard!

One night a week was “Game Night” in the Hill house - after homework was done and a favorite meal was had, Paul and his family played games till it was time to go to bed.

Paul and Christine entertained family and friends at their cottage in Wisconsin Dells, making special memories with pool fun and riding around in the golf cart.

Paul always called Christine “sweetie,” whether they were home alone, entertaining friends or shopping! They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii, then renewed their vows in 2014 on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Paul worked as a structural engineer for over 40 years in Illinois and Wisconsin. When his parents were moved to a care facility in 2009, he spent time with his parents every day. Paul was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather (and recently great-grandfather).

Paul enjoyed playing football and basketball with his sons, plus fishing trips became a huge competition when they went on vacation up to Northern Wisconsin.

Paul and Christine enjoyed entertaining- from themed parties to small gatherings playing games, especially Kings in the Corner and Euchre.

Paul is survived by his "true love,” Christine; sons, Kevin (Jill) and Brian (Katie); grandchildren, Molly and Sean; great-grandson, Izael; two brothers-in-law, John (Mary) Wyttenbach and Jim Wyttenbach; and many caring and supportive cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merit and Marie.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

I've been a friend for only a short time. Yet felt such a great vibe of Paul's love for Christine and his family. He was such a good hearted man. Anyone that knows Paul and Christine probably saw and envied the type of love they shared. Christine and family. I am truly sorry for your loss. Although all your memories live on and you can cherish that forever. Paul will be truly missed. Resa Wronski
