MCFARLAND - Jeffrey Dean “Jeff” Utter, age 56, of Cottage Grove, passed away after a short battle with peritoneal mesothelioma on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on February 14, 1969, in Madison, the son of Clair and Jacqueline (Chamberlin) Utter.


Jeff graduated from McFarland High School in 1987. He worked the majority of his career in the mailing industry - and after all these years, he knew all the zip codes and towns.


Jeff will be fondly remembered for being stubborn, having the memory of a steel trap, being a great debater and forever trying to solve all the world’s problems. He was a true outdoorsman and loved going camping, boating, taking road trips and was great at hosting campouts, cookouts, chili cookoffs and cousins Christmas. His favorite deli was Ken’s Meat Market and he liked to bowl. Jeff enjoyed listening to ‘70s and ‘80s rock music and live music. He was an avid Packers, Badgers and Brewers fan. Most of all, he loved his role of grandpa and spending time with his granddaughters.


Jeff is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Michalek; grandchildren, Audrey Barber and Lila Linde; parents, Clair and Jacqueline; brothers, William "Bill" (Meg Schaeffer-Utter) Utter, Brian (Angela) Utter and Tim (Erica) Utter; sister, Denise (Michael Hiller) Utter; former spouse, Sunshine Saddudin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the family he chose. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Elmer and Virginia (Hatch) Utter; maternal grandmother, Esther Johnson (Lee); and uncle, Dennis Chamberlin.


A celebration of life gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025. The celebration will continue at HALVERSON'S EVERYTHING NICE, 1965 Barber Drive, Stoughton, on Friday. Please dress casually for the celebration of life, as if you were coming over to the house for a visit per Jeff’s request.


A private family burial will take place at Town of Dunn Burying Ground.
