Jean Olive Schumann

BLACK EARTH - Jean Olive Hering “Jeannie” Schumann, age 77, of Black Earth, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1948, in Madison, the daughter of the late Alex and Viola (Festge) Hering. She married Eugene Schumann on March 16, 1996.

Jeannie worked for General Casualty Insurance for her entire working career. She was a life-long member of St. Martins Lutheran Church in Cross Plains, and she was like a grandma to all the young church children there and loved them deeply. Jeannie had the deepest, biggest and most caring heart and would help and be there for anyone. She enjoyed spending time with her family and also loved to bake and cook and then give her finished goods away. She was also a flower lady and loved her flowers dearly. She tended to them with loving care and, of course, talked to them all daily.

Jean is survived by her husband, Eugene; sister, Adele (Darwin) Mundt; brother-in-law, Jim Schumann; and sister-in-law, Gloria (Mike) Mullvain; and many nieces and nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; her twin sister; two more sisters; two nephews; and a sister-in-law.

A funeral service will be held at ST. MARTIN LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2427 Church St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. An additional visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hupp and her staff for the exceptional care they provided for Jeannie.
