Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Mary Jane Bollig, age 89, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at The Legacy at Noel Manor. She was born on September 14, 1935, in Madison, the daughter of Paul and Frances (Littel) Miller.

Mary attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Cross Plains and graduated from Middleton High School in 1953 where she was a cheerleader and a Majorette, leading the High School Band. She and her husband, Delbert Bollig, were married on November 28, 1953, at St. Francis Xavier Parish, Cross Plains. Mary worked at Karakahl Inn for many years, and in dietary for Ingleside Retirement Community for 18+ years before retirement.

Mary was a member of St. Ignatius Parish in Mount Horeb for over 60 years and was very involved in church and community activities. She enjoyed the conversations while she volunteered her hairdressing skills for family members and for residents at Ingleside.

Mary was best known for her cheerful nature and a smile that could light up a room, and for her strong belief in faith and family. She loved the newborns, and she was her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan in their sports and other activities. She was a strong woman of faith, and believed in the Power of the Rosary, and was able to pray it to the end even when her memory was failing her, and her wonderful sense of humor was with her to the end. Mary enjoyed family gatherings and parties, singing at the piano bar, slot machines, travel that included Alaska, Hawaii, Medjugorje, and the many trips to Door County. Mary also loved her gatherings with the coffee clutch friends in Mount Horeb.

Mary is survived by her son, Steve Bollig, daughter, Pam Lamberty, son, Randy (Roxanne) Bollig, daughter, Paula (Len) Hornung and son, Chuck Bollig; grandchildren, Tyler (Whitney) Knudtson, Wyatt (Danielle-Fiancé) Bollig, Jackson Bollig, Jessica (Chris) McFarland, Justin (Renee) Lamberty, KC Lamberty, Ryan Bollig, Mandy (Jake) Herman, Jeremy (Liz) Bollig, Garrison (Iva) Bollig, Luke (Kristy) Hornung, Anthony (Sarah) Hornung, Regina (Will) Thompson, Josh Bollig and Lindsey (Kyle - Fiancé) Bollig. Mary was one of my mom’s life- long best friends. She snd Delbert were a great couple. My brothers snd I went to school with the Bollig family. Mary set an inspiring example for us all to follow with a fun sense of humor, positive energy and huge heart! I sent her Christmmad cards since my parents and my first husband died in 2005. She had always kept them in her prayers and was an encouraging friend. Rest in Peace, Mary! I can still hear your laugh and will keep you and your family close st heart. Lisa (Statz) Dye Boening

It is with heartfelt gratitude that I honor Mary, a beloved client who brought so much light and joy into my life. For many years, I had the privilege of being her hairstylist, but it was so much more than that. Our time together was a special bond, one filled with laughter, cherished stories, and moments of connection. She always had a sparkle in her eyes when sharing the adventures she had with her husband and family. Her travel tales were as rich and vibrant as the life she lived—stories filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the world around her. But nothing made her smile more than talking about her grandchildren. Her pride and love for them were unmistakable, and I could always feel the warmth in her words. What truly stood out about Mary, was her unwavering faith and love for the Lord. Our conversations often included reflections on life, gratitude, and the strength that her faith provided her. She had such a beautiful spirit, always lifting others up and sharing her wisdom and kindness. She was a favorite, not only to me, but to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. I will forever treasure the many visits she made to my chair and the special moments we shared. I am so thankful for her presence in my life, and she will always hold a dear place in my heart. Rest in peace, Mary. You were truly one of a kind, and your legacy of love, laughter, and faith will never be forgotten. Belinda Anderson
