Elfrieda Strand

MONONA - Elfrieda Louise Strand, age 94, of Monona, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Heritage Monona. She was born on May 4, 1930, in McFarland, the daughter of Fredrick and Anna (Vogt) Gunderson.

Elfrieda graduated from Stoughton High School in June of 1949. She was united in marriage to Harry Strand on January 12, 1952. Together, they were blessed with three children.

Elfrieda and Harry loved to dance every Friday Night at the VFW on Cottage Grove Road, and they enjoyed traveling to Branson and Nashville. She loved to go for walks with her friends. She was a member of the Red Hats.

Elfrieda is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Terry) Allsage; son, Randy Strand; seven grandchildren, Valerie (John) Becker, Coy (Jenny) Bethel, Luke (Janelle) Allsage, Crystal (Rob) Koch, Jared Allsage, Connor Allsage and Ashley Strand; three great-grandchildren, Bronte and Zoe Bethel and Emersyn Allsage; sister, Lois Ophime; brother, Wayne (Gert) Gunderson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; a daughter, Linda Bethel; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Strand; brother, Riley Gunderson; sisters, Lenore Schultz, Farol Lunda and Lucile Siebert; and a nephew, Gregory Ophime.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
