Steven Kleinsteiber

MERRIMAC - Steven Jon Kleinsteiber, age 77, of Merrimac, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at UW Health East Madison Hospital. He was born on January 1, 1948, in Madison, the son of Loren and Marcella (Doubrawa) Kleinsteiber.

Steven graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1966. He attended one year at UW-Whitewater, dropped out, and proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years. During this time, he was involved in racing for a few years, especially drag racing and oval track racing.

In 1971, Steven met the love of his life, Linda Brose. They married and were blessed with one daughter, Amy. Soon after, Steven found interest in the trucking industry, with his first job working at Alpha Distributors. In 1972, he and his friend, Dale Larson, formed their own trucking business called, Aarco Equipment.

Steven and Linda moved to their forever home in Merrimac in 1994. They loved living on Lake Wisconsin. Steven was an animal lover, with a special adoration for dogs, so in retirement, he found a part-time job at the Sauk City Humane Society that he loved, it was a perfect fit for him. In addition to spending time at home on the lake, they enjoyed traveling to Florida and Canada and golfing. Sadly, in 2014, Steven’s soulmate, Linda passed, after surgical complication related to throat cancer.

Steven is survived by his daughter, Amy (Paul) Brown; granddaughter, Kailey Brown; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda; parents, Loren and Marcella; uncle, Carly; and aunt, Erna.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

A special thank you to Steven’s neighbors who helped take care of his dogs and an extra special thank you to the hospital staff who cared for him, especially Skyler, Mitch, Todd, Lauren, Stephanie and Robyn.
