Obituary
MADISON - John R. Bennett, age 67, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on January 29, 2025. A lifelong resident of Madison, Wis., and graduate of La Follette High School, John was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent several years working construction at Wingra Stone.
John was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting, as well as tending to his garden. He found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of being outdoors, whether it was reeling in a big catch, participating in local fishing tournaments with his best friends, Kevin and Kerry, planting flowers, or spending time in nature. A lifelong Wisconsin sports fan, he enjoyed cheering for his teams and sharing that passion with family and friends. In addition to his love for the outdoors, John also enjoyed working on puzzles, which brought much relaxation. He was a devoted family man who cherished his time with his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Donald Bennett; brother, Jim Bennett; mother-in-law, Shannon Trebus; brothers-in-law, Gary Mckinley, Jeff Knuteson and Mark Trebus; and special great-nephew, Max.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gwen; his daughter, Ashlie (Tony) Ogello; stepdaughter, Heather (Alex) Elvord; and grandchildren, Brayden, CJ, Jude, Taytum and Payton. John is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, Judy (Marvin) Hesier, Joanne Mckinley, Janene Knuteson and Jane (Deane) Hanna, as well as numerous special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
