Obituary

MCFARLAND - Cathy Werwinski, age 58, of McFarland, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, as a result of an accident. She was born on September 5, 1966, the daughter of Hadi and Janice (Legris) Pankow and grew up in Columbus, WI.

She married the love of her life, Paul Werwinski, on March 14, 1997, in Las Vegas, NV. Cathy and Paul lived in McFarland, WI where they raised four great children; Erek, Caley, Chase and Cade. Cathy was the heart of her family. She loved being a mom and gathering her children, siblings, and their families in an environment that allowed for creating happy memories and storytelling opportunities for all. Cathy had an innate ability to find something good in everyone in her life’s path. She cared deeply about her husband, children, family members, and all her friends. Cathy loved spending time at the lake - any lake. Cathy + lake + family/friends = her happy place.

Cathy’s career was very important to her. For 33 years, she worked at the UW Hospitals and Clinics where she was a senior transplant coordinator before becoming the manager of the kidney transplant program. She went on to become a Director of Home Health and Hospice for Interim Home Health Care of Wisconsin. During her career, her kindness and compassion truly shined working with patients and their families where she touched many people's lives.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Paul; sons, Erek Weis, Chase (Jordan) Werwinski and Cade Werwinski (Shelby Martin); daughter, Caley Weis; brothers, Brad (Jeanne) Pankow, Tom (Faye) Pankow and Mark (Kim) Pankow; father-in-law, James Werwinski; in-laws, Todd (Shari) Werwinski and Jamie (Michelle) Werwinski; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and mothers-in-law.

I’m very sorry to hear this news. My heart goes out to Cathy’s family and all who loved her. Cathy was a generous and kind transplant professional, and she contributed so much to the program. She was dedicated to her patients and her work made transplants possible for hundreds of patients. Her legacy will be the lives she touched, and I am grateful to have been her colleague.
