Obituary

OREGON - Jane Ann (Ferris) Winch, age 88, of Oregon, Wis., passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wis.

Jane was born in Madison, October 27, 1936, to Raymond E. and Fern E. (Hoesly) Ferris. She grew up on the east side of Madison, graduating from East High School in 1954. She was a member of the People’s United Methodist Church in Oregon. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years, later working outside of the home up until she reached age 70.

Mom was the most thoughtful, caring, happy, lovable mom, grandma and great grandma (GG) a person could ask for. She put everyone else first and herself second. Throughout her 88 years she attended many, many events that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in, whether it be a school event, sporting event, dance or music recital, etc. Anyone who knew mom, knew how important and special her family was to her. Mom was always smiling, joking around and laughing at herself and with others. She was an avid Badger and Packer fan, a member of the First Wives Club (a coffee and social group) and had regular weekly social visits to the Promodern Salon and Bill’s/HyVee Grocery Store.

Jane is survived by her three daughters, Kim (Steve McGilvrey) Erfurth of Stoughton, Kay (Bob) Sterling of Oregon and Kari (Ren) Grover of Oregon; one son, Rick (Julie) Winch of Fitchburg; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Kristin) Erfurth of Oregon, Courtney (Adam) Barth of Mooresville, Ind., Andrew (Ellen) Gover of Mt. Prospect, Ill., Emily (Casey) Higgins of Sun Prairie, Alex (Laci) Sterling of Sun Prairie, Bradley (Holly Houston) Sterling of Madison, Amy (Aaron) Queck of Verona, Brittani (Trevor) Thompson of Oregon and Jonathan (Hannah) Winch of Fitchburg; 20 great-grandchildren, Lily, Nolan, Eloise and Ivy Erfurth, Alina and Adalyn Barth, Chase, Lucas and Emilia Sterling, Shawn, Colin and Landon Grover, Aaron Higgins, Benjamin, Sophie and Emma Queck, Jack, Noah and Lucy Thompson, and William Winch; sister, Nancy Zweifel of New Glarus; and two nieces, Stephanie Zweifel of New Glarus and Teresa (Dave & Ella) Wearing of New Glarus. Jane is further survived by members of the extended Ferris and Winch families.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Fern; and brother-in-law, Stephen Zweifel.

The family would like to thank the many, many medical personnel, at various medical facilities, that took such wonderful and loving care of mom (and us) over the last several months. The staff at the hospital was the absolute best in helping us navigate this difficult journey in mom and our lives. We would also like to thank all our family and friends for their kindness, concern and loving words.

Mom, may you rest in peace! You will be deeply missed!

A funeral service will be held at PEOPLE'S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 103 Alpine Parkway, Oregon, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with Pastor Dan Dick presiding.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Because of mom’s soft heart and love of children, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or UW Health American Family Children’s Hospital.

To the entire family of Jane Winch. My deepest and most sincere condolences. Jane was an absolute GEM. I have so much respect for her. Just one of the nicest , kindest compassionate people I will ever know . She had the most contagious laughs ever. She put up with my shenanigans during all my visits to the Winch home when I was younger. She is gone but will never be forgotten. Her sense of humor and kindness lives on. With all my respect “ Snow goose ‘

Jane will be missed by many of us that worked with her at Home Security of America. We had a lot of fun and have many memories of time spent with her. She was a good friend to me long after her retirement and I was lucky that she visited me in Florida thanks to Kim. She always said I was her adopted daughter. I will surely miss catching up with her and hearing all about my adopted family. My condolences go out to her family. Rest in peace Jane, you had a life well lived. Darlene Schwab
