Obituary

STOUGHTON - Richard O. “Dick” Boyd, age 85, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was born July 15, 1939, in Madison, Wis., the son of Edward and Gladys Boyd.

Dick was confirmed at First Lutheran Church and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1957, then he enlisted in US Air Force. While in the military he married his childhood sweetheart, Judy Haried, on January 14, 1961. He worked and proudly retired from Zalk Joseph’s in 2010, making lifelong great friendships.

Dick was a member and volunteer for many years at the Otis Sampson American Legion Post 59 in Stoughton. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and was on many horseshoe leagues, golfed with his family and friends, spent happy hour with friends, loved grilling, especially his famous 3-beer chicken, and most of all, was VERY proud of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and granddog, Cassie.

Richard is survived by his three daughters, Julie Jensen (Tom Lindsay), Amy Boyd (Ed Mennes) and Laurie (Brad) Brown; grandchildren, Jason (Amber) Linnerud, Ericka (David) Zuehlke, Ryan (Emily) Bersing and Amber (Mike) Herman; great-grandchildren, Avery Linnerud, Zack (who’s proudly serving in the U.S. Marines), Joey and  Ben Zuehlke, Alice and Lindy Bersing, and Michael and Amelia Herman; brother, Glen (Pat) Boyd; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; parents, Edward and Gladys Boyd; eight brothers and three sisters; and in-laws, Violet and Ingvald Haried.

Special thank you to Richard Rinden and Michelle for the friendship and care you gave our dad, Rick Gullickson and all of dad’s friends at the American Legion, St. Mary’s Hospital, Dr. James R. Dotimas, Dr. Tracy M. Rettinger and the amazing medical staff on Unit 8 Southwest and the caring Hospice Care Team.

To honor our dad’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. A private burial will be held at a later date.

We traveled thousands of miles together across this country, met a lot of nice and interesting people, in bars we never thought we would make it out of and out ran a few tornadoes in the process. Thank you for helping me get out of my shell, and for always being there. Birthdays will never be the same, but you are impossible to forget. Thank you for everything grandpa.

I used to sit and enjoy Dick's company when I lived near the American Legion in Stoughton. He always had a funny story or joke to tell, and was one of the nicest regulars at the Post 59. RIP Richard

Richard was such a nice man. Harvested tobacco with Richard and Judy for Keith and Judy's sister, Susan Slinde back in the day. Good times!
