MIDDLETON - Ronald Charles “Ron” Boyer, age 83, of Middleton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at The Meadows in Fall River. He was born on September 13, 1941, in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of Paul and Helen (Shanks) Boyer.
He married the love of his life Donna “Cricket” Johnson on November 25, 1963, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Monona. He was the owner/operator of the Village Green Tavern in Middleton for 47 years, retiring in February 2024.
Ron was the original drummer for the Steve Miller Band, but he stepped aside once he started his family with Cricket. Around that time, he started his career in the restaurant business, operating five Kelly's Hamburgers restaurants in the Madison area. After a few years operating Kelly's, Ron acquired The Village Green Bar and Grill in Middleton. He was a proud owner of the family business, and he served as a prominent member of the downtown Middleton community.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling the world, with a push-pin map at their house denoting the wide variety of destinations they visited. When home in Wisconsin, they enjoyed spending time with their family, especially around the grill, and activities with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and food were at the top of Ron’s priority list.
Ron is survived by his wife, Donna “Cricket”, children, Ronda (DuWayne) Sweno and their children, Lauren (Lucas) Plant and Kaitlyn (Ben) Schuh; Dave Boyer and his children, Dylan and Parker Boyer; Chad Boyer; and Craig Boyer and his children, Owen and Avery Boyer; great-grandchildren, Breckyn and Caldyr Plant, and Maeva and Alden Schuh; sister, Barbara (Jim) Cusick; and brother, Dave Boyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Paul.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with Father Brian Wilk presiding. Family and friends who wish to view the service via LIVESTREAM may visit Ron’s obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com at the time of the service and click on “Watch Now” in the Webcast section. A time of food and fellowship will follow the service. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
