Before Kathy and I married, Danny, Kathy, (possibly Amy) and I were playing bat-a-round in the backyard. Mahlon pointed out that the bird bath was in a position where it could be damaged by the ball. In my mind , I reviewed the location of the bird bath and realized it was 30 degrees and twenty feet behind me. "We're good". I said. That would be one hell of a foul ball... Dan lobbed the NEXT pitch to me. I promptly swung under the ball and foul-tipped it into the base of the bird bath. The base shattered and fell to the ground in a small pile while the bath disc stayed suspended for two seconds before succumbing to gravity's whims. Sheepishly notifying Mahlon of the SNAFU, I was expecting the worst, but received a look and a "whatever" wave of the hand. Love ya, Dad. You'll be missed. Brian Hrabovsky

My condolences to the Hallmark Family. Bill always had a big smile and hello. I enjoyed working with him and his staff at the bank in the mid 70’s. The Cottage Grove bank was one of my Bank of Madison data processing customers. Charles Schaeve
