Obituary

PARDEEVILLE / OREGON - John H. “Lucky” Olson, age 85, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 10, 2025. John was born on June 12, 1939, to J.C. and Agnes M. (Bernard) Olson. He attended school in Verona, WI. He became a mechanic by trade and was the lead mechanic in the Olson racing team, with his brother, Richard “Dick” Olson and Norman Blucher. They raced at the Dells, Oregon, Jefferson, and Columbus raceways. He had a lifelong love of cars and racing.


John enjoyed many years of farming and had a soft heart for animals. After retirement he became an accountant where he went to the beach and "studied figures." He loved spending time with his "Little Buddy" Austin, attending family gatherings, motorcycle trips with family, building projects, helping others, and going to dinner at Golden Corral and Culvers.


John is survived by his former wife, Judy (Harold) Bergeman; children, Linda Rhinehart, Lori Olson, John A. (Tracey) Olson, Becky (Jay) Schowalter and foster daughter, Nancy (Matt) Denman; grandchildren, John J. Olson, Tracy (Brian) Olson, Randy Olson, Shaianne Olson, and Teresa (James) Foster; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Cameron, Gaige, and Desirae; great-great-grandchildren, Ellis, Elijah, and Ellie; nieces, Anna Olson and Pam (Feroz) Ghouse; great-nephews, Alex (Kenzie), Ryan, and Donald; and loving friends, Sue Noyce, Joe (Jennifer) Noyce, and Austin Noyce.


He was preceded in heaven by his daughter, Brenda L. Olson; brother, Dick (Loretta) Olson; sister, Catherine A. Larson; and nephews, Raymond J. Olson and Ricky Ballard.


John will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his larger-than-life sense of humor.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial will be private at Sunset Memory Gardens.

John was a really sweet guy. When I got sick someone started shoveling my drive and sidewalk. Turns out it was Cowboy John! My dog Bella May just adored him. She would go manic if she saw him coming. He is going to be irreplaceable. I miss you already John.

John was an amazing man , he wanted the best for his little buddy Austin and was very proud of him talking about him often...He and I shared a lot of interest in cars and racing, he cared about making the world a better place and did something almost no one else would by posting signs on his car to draw attention to the ill's of voting without common sense, John will always be in our heart's for speaking up like we could not, for fear of ridicule...
