Bill was a great big-hearted friend to our family. He was brought into our circle when my father-in-law George McGovern asked him to organize the ‘’72 presidential campaign in Wisconsin. The campaign that November did not go our way but its spirit, values, and long-lasting relationships were indelible campaign returns of a more valuable kind that Bill gifted to us forever. Godspeed, good man.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a great conversationalist at the holiday dinners. He will be missed. My thoughts are with you. Love always, Your cousin

Dear Amy and Family, my condolences on the passing of Bill. Our paths crossed so many times since 1976 and at each intersection my admiration for Bill grew. Losing presidential campaigns — primaries and general elections— golf at the Stoughton country club. His stellar job running the 1992 convention in New York City where Clinton was nominated. But it was his role in getting Carter elected in ‘76 that is with us now. Jimmy Carter owes Bill a beer in Heaven. Tom Loftus
