Obituary
SUN PRAIRE - David Vargas was born on January 19, 1962, in Waukegan, Ill., and entered eternal rest on December 31, 2024, in Sun Prairie, Wis.
David served 20 years in the United States Coast Guard and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was very proud of his two kids, Angela and Michael, and his granddaughter, Molina.
He enjoyed history, listening to Motown music with his daughter, working on cars with his son, and spending time with family. David’s cat, Sweeteners, was his constant companion.
David is survived by children, Angela Canepa (Christian) and granddaughter, Molina; and Michael Vargas (Jaci); many grand pets; his former wife, Victoria; siblings, Joel Vargas, Rolando Vargas, Adam Vargas, Evan Vargas and Asenath Stelzer; cousins, Pat and Londine Tijerina; extended family in Illinois and Texas; and his cat, Sweeteners. David was preceded in death by his parents, Genoveva Patlan and Juan Vargas Jr.; his grandparents; and cousin, Dan Tijerina.
Dave enjoyed laughing over family stories and especially loved telling jokes to his granddaughter. He was the king of one liners. He made many friends along the way and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
