Thomas Avery Tucker

SUN PRAIRIE - The world became a little less bright on December 15, 2025, with the passing of Thomas Avery Tucker who possessed a special gift for connecting with people through humor and wit.

Tom was born on April 26, 1930, in Lake Delton, Wis., to Avery and Cressie Tucker. After graduating from Wisconsin Dells High School, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army and became part of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, nicknamed the Rakkasans, which were elite United States Paratroopers. One of Tom’s first missions was Operation Tomahawk on October 20, 1950.

After returning to the States, Tom married the love of his life, Peggy Sue Wolfram, of Portage, Wis., on June 28, 1954.

Home for Tom and Peg was Sun Prairie, Wis., on the dead-end circle of McArthur Street. It was there that they raised their four children. Along with their home in Sun Prairie, Tom and Peg had a lake home in Pardeeville on Park Lake for over 10 years. The lake home was then changed to Minocqua Lake. So many fun years and always an exciting Fourth of July celebration to be had.

Tom and Peg worked hard and opened up Tommy Tuckers Vacuum and Janitorial which sat on the corner of Atwood and Fair Oaks Avenue in Madison for over 30 years.

Tom had memberships with the East Side Businessmen's Association, the Lions and the Elks. He was a member of the Sun Prairie United Methodist Church and in his later years Door Creek. Tom was an avid outdoors fan. Younger years had him hunting across the United States. Tom would tell you that his first love of the outdoors was fishing. He enjoyed the last 20 years on the lakes up in Minocqua, Wis. Tom was an avid sports fan of the Brewers, Bucks, Badgers and Packers.

Tom’s pride and joy has always been his family. He is survived by his only daughter, Tracey (Jerry) Lust; his one remaining son, Tom (Kathy) Tucker; daughter-in-law, Diane Tucker; grandchildren, Natasha (Steve) Jones, Behren (Tonia) Tucker, Tom (Calin) Hunter, Cody (Miao) Hunter, Angie (John) Cotter and Jackie Tucker; and great-grandchildren, Emberly, Charlotte, Haven, Shae, Liam, Finley, Amelia, Zola, Chloe and Jack. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Peg; sons, Timothy Tucker and Terry Tucker; and parents, Avery Gil and Cressie Tucker.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, with a reception to follow. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
