Mary Ruth Stini

Mary Ruth Stini

March 21, 1930 - December 26, 2024

Obituary

MADISON, Wis. / TUCSON, Ariz. - Following a Christmas Eve celebration with family Mary Ruth Stini began her transition to eternal life. With her daughter, Paulette, son-in-law, Don, and granddaughter, Arianna, by her side she slipped from us in the early hours of December 26, 2024.

Ruth was born Mary Ruth Kalous on March 21, 1930, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She met the love of her life, William Stini, while both were attending high school in Oshkosh and married him on February 11, 1950. Three children were born to them Patricia, Paulette and Suzanne.

Ruth dedicated her life to helping and supporting her husband as he built his career in academia and to maintaining their home and raising their children. Over the years, Ruth and Bill moved frequently in pursuit of greater career opportunities.  They eventually landed in Tucson, where they fell in love with the region and settled in for good.

Ruth traveled extensively visiting countries around the world. She also enjoyed hiking, entertaining neighbors, friends, and colleagues, gardening, playing Bridge and volunteering. She made many lifelong friends along the way and became an icon of healthy aging in the senior living community where she spent the last nine years of her life before returning home to Wisconsin.

She will be missed by the many people who loved her. Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Patricia, Paulette and Suzanne; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lorraine. She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson; a great-grandson; and six siblings.

A special thanks to her neighbors, friends, and second family in Tucson, who loved her and brought her such joy. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

The Stinis were my neighbors in the Tucson foothills and I was fond of them both. I missed them so much when I moved to another neighborhood. Ruth and I shared many birthday lunches, lots of recipes and just great chats about Wisconsin, where I was a Badger '62 graduate. She was very dear to me. Cheers to her great life.
