Obituary
MONONA - Bernice Susanna Anderson, age 87, of Monona, Wis., passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 19, 2024. She was born to Adam and Susie Mumm on February 3, 1937, in Cassville, Wis. She grew up with her ten siblings on a beautiful country farm with rolling hills near the Mississippi River.
Bernice married the love of her life, Cecil Anderson, on November 28, 1959. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Together they raised four children. Bernice went to work doing tax preparation and bookkeeping once the kids were in school. She was always good with numbers and kept a perfect spreadsheet.
Bernice had a variety of hobbies and talents. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, tending her flower and vegetable gardens, and hunting for morel mushrooms at their cabin in Avoca, Wis. She took classes in ceramics and cake decorating. Bernice and Cecil also enjoyed traveling, especially going places on cruise ships. They enjoyed bowling in a couple’s league on Sunday nights and loved gambling trips with friends.
Cecil and Bernice moved to Frost Woods Senior Apartments where they made many new friends. She enjoyed euchre tournaments, bingo, happy hour and Badger and Packer games there.
Bernice was a devout member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Monona, Wis., for over sixty years. She enjoyed working funerals and participated in many apple pie making events. Her faith remained strong her whole life.
Bernice will be deeply missed by her husband, Cecil; her children, Michelle (Jon) Taschek, Dale (Colette) Anderson, Susan Bielmeier and Don (Stacey) Anderson; grandchildren, Emily (Zach) Jarecki, Michael Taschek, Steven (Kelsey) Bielmeier, Hunter (Kristin) Anderson, Mackenzie (William) Parranto, Amber (Matt) Hanson and Story Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Renn and Maeve Jarecki and Hayden and Graham Bielmeier. Bernice had a special bond with many of her nieces and nephews who will also greatly miss visiting with her.
The family gives their heartfelt thanks to the Agrace staff, especially Nicole and Loretta, for their loving care and support.
Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
