Obituary

MADISON -Suzanne Marie Wicker Blotz of Madison died Tuesday, December 24, 2024.

Sue was born December 15, 1944, in Watertown, Wis., the daughter of Robert and Eva (Heiling) Wicker. She married her husband of almost 50 years, Richard Blotz, on September 26, 1975, at St. Henry’s Church in Watertown, Wis.

After graduating from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Sue worked as an Intensive Care nurse at Methodist Hospital in Madison and as a visiting nurse for Dane County before her 30 years at Group Health Cooperative. Her attentiveness, care, and skill were appreciated by patients and colleagues alike.

An accomplished painter and quilter, Sue had an artist’s soul; her creativity and talent were evident in both the making process and in the work she produced. In addition to the quilts made for loved ones (and those connected to her loved ones), the warmth and comfort her quilts offer were also shared with Quilts of Valor and Project Linus.

Sue is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Joseph (James Buccini) and Molly (Andrew Tuchowski); grandchildren, Devin, Dontay, Davyn and Llancel; her brother, Richard Wicker (partner, Judy Draeger); her sister, Bonnie (Richard) Gallup; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Wicker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

I am so sorry to hear of Sue's passing. I am a quilting friend of hers and spent several weekends of sewing with her. She also spent a weekend up north with me. She was a delightful human and an exceptional quilter. My condolences to all of you. She will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Sue's passing. I worked many years with Sue and admired her dedication to her patients. Her and Dr Atkinson were a great team. I still have the quilts she made for me, one was given to me when my first grandchild was born. Sue's thoughtfulness will always be remembered.

May she rest in peace! Sue was a friend of mine since fourth grade. We had many good times together and our parents were good friends. I love to see pictures of her quilts. She had one on her bed when I visited. She was a kind and gentle soul, generous, and accepting. She is now at peace. May blessings be with her and her family. Barb Downing Fraser

So sorry to hear about her passing. She and Dr Atkinson were a wonderful to work with Sue was always so kind and thoughtful. She gave me a pickle ornament when I had my first child and started the tradition in my family. I have passed that on with my new baby gifts too. Thought and prayers to the family
