MIDDLETON - Samuel James Dyer, age 23, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024. He was born on June 10, 2001, in Madison, Wis., the son of Joel Dyer and Melissa (Pletzer) Dyer.

Samuel grew up in Cross Plains, Wis., until age 10, and then moved to Madison, Wis. He graduated from West High School in 2020. He then went on to study Forestry at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point. He began work as a tree technician as a summer job/internship after his freshman year of studies. He enjoyed his work as a tree care technician with Tree House Arbor Science and would come home to work for them each summer and every break he could. So much so that he made the decision to leave school early and work while studying to take the Arborist Certification exam. This is something that he was able to do because of his previous class knowledge and work experience, as well as being vetted by his bosses. Known as a very caring person, Samuel loved the outdoors and was passionate about the conservation of his family farmland in the Driftless Glen region. He loved to share his love of the outdoors with others (coworkers, friends, family, etc.). A good friend and a good listener, he was the kind of kid who would sit and listen to the adults in the room and absorb, rather than adding to the conversation.

Samuel was baptized, raised, and confirmed in the church. He was a cross-country runner in both middle and high school. His best hunting partners were his grandfather and his Uncle Matthew. He was proud of his pickup truck he purchased last year, which contributed to his love of the outdoors and hunting. He loved his sisters and his family very deeply and he had a strong bond with his grandfather. Samuel played guitar for a number of years, especially metal and classic rock music, and he loved playing video games with his best friend, Grant. He enjoyed daily conversations with his father about work events from the day, catching up with his sisters, and never missed giving his Mom a goodnight hug. He loved late night snacking that left crumbs on the counter for his family to find in the morning. Samuel was full of life and excited about his future professional endeavors.

Samuel is survived by his mother, Melissa Dyer; father, Joel Dyer; sisters, Jillian Dyer and Hannah Dyer; grandmothers, Dorothy Pletzer and Lisa Dyer; uncle, Matthew Pletzer; aunt, Michelle (Kyle) Cullum; cousins, Prema, Isaac, Eli, Kyrie, Ashlynn and Noelle; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Eugene Pletzer.

A funeral service will be held at ST. ANDREW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6815 Schneider Road, Middleton, Wis., at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024, with Pastor Randy Hunter presiding. A luncheon will follow the service. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

Sam was a valued member of the Tree House Arbor family. He was always quick with a joke, and he loved to operate the trucks and large equipment. He was progressing toward his goal of becoming a certified arborist and we loved to watch him grow. He will be dearly missed. The House Family
