Obituary

MCFARLAND - Starr David Hartson, age 72, of McFarland, suffered a stroke and passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at UW Hospital and Clinics in Madison. He was born on January 28, 1952, in Winona, Minn., the son of Robert and Dolores (Wagner) Hartson.

Starr graduated from Waverly High School in 1970. He married Dianne Wadman on September 16 in 1978. He worked as a salesperson for Midwest Sales and Marketing and various sales companies for nearly five decades, retiring in 2019.  Starr represented plumbing and heating supplies and liked to refer to himself as a “toilet salesman!”  Starr had a bold sense of humor, leaving most amused and several rolling their eyes!

He was a member of The Old Man’s Lunch Club!!

Starr enjoyed fishing in Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin and especially in Canada with friends and family (boys only!).  Once each year for the last 48 years Starr took a week-long fishing trip with his childhood friend, Dave, and included his sons when they became teens.

Starr is survived by his wife, Dianne; son, Joe Hartson; son, Rick (Tia) Hartson; daughter, Alyssa (Matthew Windsor) Hartson; son, Dan (Allison) Hartson; two sisters, Tande (Dan) Brush and Holly (Habbo) Fokkena; and four grandchildren, Alicia, Addelyn, Lydia and Quinn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dolores.

As a long time neighbor watching our families grow up together we had plenty of family time. The memorable "slip and slide" killing the grass and our collective bodies along with floating "Alligator " wrestling in the pool just made the family bonding time the best. Starr worked hard but often played harder. He loved his family but loved the road too.

Starr (Mr. Hartson) will be missed. I have a lot of memories growing up whether it was Starr taking us to Brewers games at County Stadium in the cool conversion van or fishing on or near a Lake. The fireworks in the driveway were always epic! I also appreciate the professional guidance I got from him one afternoon after a long day at the Waukesha swap meet selling rusty car parts (me) and plumbing tool surplus (Starr). Great Father and Grandfather. He and the family will be in our prayers.
