Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Antoinette “Toni” Adams passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 10, 2024, at the age of 95. Toni’s life was filled with many great loves, most notably her deep Catholic faith, her beloved husband of nearly 72 years, and her cherished family.

Born on the family farm on October 6, 1929, Toni was the second of 10 children to Albert and Bertha Sutter of Perry Township. Toni recalled her childhood with joy, often expressing admiration for her parents’ hard work in supporting their large family. One of her favorite stories was about being chased by a bull while crossing a field to the local cheesemaker.

While out with friends at The Campus Soda Grill, Toni met James “Jim” Adams. Jim and his friends flirted with the group, and the spark between Toni and Jim led to their marriage on December 27, 1952. The couple spent most of their lives in Mount Horeb where they were very active members of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and were part owners/operators of the Norsk Golf Bowl and the A&W Restaurant. Together they raised three children. She was forever working for the good of their family. After retirement, they enjoyed playing golf together and spending some of their winters in Arizona.

Family and friends will cherish memories filled with joy and laughter gathered around a table with Toni. Whether it be for a family dinner or celebration, it wasn’t complete without her homemade chip dip or sitting at the card table where she enjoyed playing bridge and euchre. She was quite the card shark and nearly impossible to beat even in her later years. Her presence will be deeply missed.

Alongside her husband, Jim, she is survived by their three children, Debra (Mark) Percy, Lynn (Hugh) Boysen and David (Julie) Adams; 10 grandchildren, David (Jenny), Aaron, Stephen, Jon (Carissa), Catherine and Sr. Angelica Michelle Percy, Theresa (Michael) Ring, Elisabeth (Eric) Brinsko, Erica (Ben) Cichon and Erin (Michael) Grunewald; four step-grandchildren, Jenny (Matt) Dahl, Jill (Mike) Ingenito, Joseph Boysen and Tasia (Jason) Gjermo; 14 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and seven step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four sisters, Marlene (Dick) Acker, Rosemary Miller, Cecelia (William) Walsh and Pauline Tvedt; and sisters-in-law, Rosemary Sutter, Louise Sutter and Marge Sutter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bertha; in-laws, Clarence and Victoria Adams; brothers, LaVerne, Sylvester, Joseph, Dennis and Russ Sutter; sisters-in-law, Agnes Sutter, Lynne Sutter, Beatrice Retallic, Patty Klein, Nancy Ward and Beth Adams; and brothers-in-law, Richard Adams, Kenneth Miller and Lou Tvedt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. IGNATIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 109 S. Sixth St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, with Father Robert Butz presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Mount Horeb. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.

My memory of Antoinette is that she absolutely could not have been kinder and sweeter. I met her just one day, a long, long time ago, when a friend and I drove out to David Adams's for a quick visit. (David and I worked at the same place at the time.) Since then I've known where David's kindness and sensitivity come from. His parents were both so lovely and kind that I have never forgotten that day so many years ago. It was a beautiful, sunny summer day at their place, and it made me so happy. David's dad even fixed my shoe and wouldn't accept payment! If you don't remember this day, or even remember me, it's fine; I just wanted to let the world know I met the kindest family ever. David, I hope you're doing well and enjoying the Holidays. Sincerely, Anne Nichols

And of course I meant to let David and his family know how sorry that Antoinette passed away; it has to be especially challenging at Christmas time. I send you and your family sympathy and peace. Anne Nichols
