Obituary
MADISON - Barbara Botham, age 82, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Middleton Village. She was born on March 24, 1942, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Dorsey and Elizabeth (Glenn) Botham.
Barbara graduated from Edgewood High School in 1960 and went on to Edgewood College. She was a teacher in primary grades in several cities in Illinois. She then earned a master’s degree in Library and Information Science at the State University of NY-Albany. She began her career as a children’s librarian with The New York Public Library. Her career included several cities in New York before she relocated to the Midwest. She joined the staff at the Chicago Public Library for a time and finished her career with the Oak Park Public Library. She was a passionate reader and enjoyed her career immensely. Her storytelling skills entertained many children and her sense of humor and rapport with children and parents endeared her to many.
Barbara is survived by her sisters, Jane (Nip) Botham, Betty Lou Botham, Rosanne Raemisch, Rosemary Kibbe and Bridget Kenngott; brother, Steve (Jeanne) Botham; sisters-in-law, Virginia Botham and Debbie Botham; many nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Ellen Rodgers; and brothers, James (Tuck) Botham and Thomas Botham.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
