Obituary

MONONA - Sharon Alice Bronson, age 78, of Monona, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at her home. She was born on August 16, 1946, in Rome, N.Y., the daughter of Everett and Dorothy (Horton) Bronson. In 1951, her family relocated from New York to Monona, Wis.

Sharon’s life passion was being a nurse. She worked in a nursing home in high school, and she was very compassionate and empathic. She initially went to North Central Bible College and then went on to get her R.N. from Edgewood College. On August 10, 1970, she started her nursing career at St. Mary’s Hospital, where she worked for over 40 years in the ER, Peds and NICU. She also worked many years at Meriter. Sharon volunteered for the Monona EMS, and she was a Med Flight nurse for several years. She went on medical mission trips to Nicaragua. In addition, she taught CPR, BLS, ALCS and PALS at St. Mary’s Hospital as well as teaching in the Medical Assistant program and other medical courses at Madison College and Blackhawk Tech.

Sharon enjoyed being the best aunt. She loved spending time with her great-nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Saidey, John, Jesse, Kamiah and Desmond, and spent every summer with them at the Monona pool. She enjoyed going out to eat with her friends and family. Spending time talking and visiting with her cousins was very important to her. She also loved dogs.

Sharon is survived by her sister, Jackie (Rod) Spors; brother, Jim (Diane) Bronson; brothers-in-law, Jim Kossow and Roy Boyd; nieces, Meghan (Jeff Schwartz) Kossow, and Bridget and Olivia Boyd; nephews, Daryl (Briana) Spors, Derek (Erin) Spors, Barry (Katie) Spors and Brandon Boyd; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jean Kossow and Kim Boyd; brother, Jeff Bronson; and niece, Alice Kossow.

Sharon was the calm in any situation. While she didn’t have children of her own, she wrapped loving arms around her nieces and nephews and then again with their children. What a gift she was in this world.

A few friends and I worked on some landscaping for her this past summer (2024). She often came out to chat with us, and it was clear from the start that she was a kind and genuine person. It was always a pleasure talking with her, and I feel fortunate to have had the chance to know her, even briefly.
