Obituary

MADISON - Wendy Gaye Broksieck, age 72, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 24, 2024, with her family by her side. Wendy was born August 30, 1952, to John and Ida Marie (Butterfield) Wiebersick, the youngest of five children. She grew up in Montrose, S.D., and after high school she attended and graduated from Dakota State University. During this time, she was an intern on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., working for Senator Mundt; the memory she spoke of often. On June 9, 1973, she married Gayle Broksieck. They moved to many different states throughout the U.S. and had their daughter, Rebecca Susanne, in 1977. In 1984 they moved to Madison, Wis. Wendy worked a few places throughout her career and retired from the American Family Insurance Corporate Legal department after 25 years.

Wendy enjoyed shopping and was always fashionable, traveling with Gayle back home to South Dakota and Las Vegas to enjoy the sun, listening to live music at The East Side Club (loved Tony Rocker…an Elvis look alike) and attending concerts. Her favorite was her heartthrob, Tom Jones! Time spent with her family was always the most important and she especially enjoyed time with her husband (traveling to wineries and unique restaurants), daughter (coffee and pedicures) granddaughter, Haley (shopping, movies, and gossiping), grandson, Justen (her forever person the golden boy “JT” who always could make her smile and loved watching him being a football star) and being “GG” to her great-grandchildren (playing beauty shop).

Wendy is survived by her husband, Gayle; her daughter, Rebecca (Ryan) Trapino; grandson, Justen (Victoria); granddaughter, Haley (Ernesto); great-grandchildren, Rosalyn, Alyson and Vincent; her brother, DeLee (Mary Lou); her sister, Susan (Damon); in-laws, Dave, Jo and Ronald (Dillie); and many nieces and nephews. Wendy was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Susie and Fritz; sister, Karen; brother, Jerome; sister-in-law, Mona (Roger) and nieces, April and Marcy.

Thank you to those that helped care for Wendy these last few years and those that continued to make her laugh and smile. Vascular dementia is an awful disease that took my precious mom…wife, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. There will never be a kinder, more caring, and loving person that would do anything for anyone. Thank you, mom, for your unconditional love and support. We will never be the same without you here with us. Watch over and guide us as our angel above. We love you always and forever.

Join our family to celebrate Wendy at THE EAST SIDE CLUB, 3735 Monona Drive, Madison, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024. A celebration will be held in South Dakota at a later date.

I had the privilege of working with Wendy for many years at American Family. She was a very hard worker, always ready to go the extra mile. As I got to know Wendy her devotion to Gayle, Becca, and Justen came through loud and clear. The others weren't yet in the picture. My deepest sympathies for the loss of a true one of a kind. So sorry for your families loss Gayle. I know how much she meant to you and your family from all the stories I would hear about while working with you. I only met her a handful of times but she was a very lovely lady.

We are so sorry to hear of Wendy's passing. My mother had vascular dementia and it IS a terrible disease. We were neighbor's of Gayle and Wendy for 34 years. And yes, she was always fashionable! I will always remember her tall shoes...Thinking of Gayle and her entire family. Annette & Larry Landsness
