Obituary

CROSS PLAINS - Robert Leo “Bob” Marty, age 64, of Cross Plains, passed away after a brave battle with cancer on Saturday, November 16, 2024. He was born in Sauk Prairie on January 12, 1960, to Morris LaVerne Marty and Judy Ann Handel. Bob was united in marriage to Linda Rose Helt on October 3, 1987, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ashton.

Bob graduated from Wisconsin Heights High School in 1979. He set a cross-country record and held it for many years. Bob worked at Bollig’s Gas Station in Mazomanie as an attendant. He also worked for Sunset Memorial Gardens and Zanders Creamery. Bob’s career included 40 years with the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles where he retired as a Financial Specialist-Senior in the Revenue Accounting Department.

Bob had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping whenever he could. He was an avid fan of the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. He also spent countless hours listening to radio talk shows and rock and roll music, which brought him great joy. He had a special fondness for classic television, often watching The Andy Griffith Show, Beverly Hillbillies, and the History Channel. A true enthusiast of classic cars, Bob loved attending car shows and admiring vintage vehicles.

With a wonderful sense of humor, Bob was always quick to laugh and loved making others laugh as well. Above all, his family was the center of his world. He took immense pride in every achievement, no matter how small, and his face would light up as he shared stories of his wife, daughters and granddaughter. He cherished every laugh, milestone, and precious moment they shared. His legacy of love and pride he left behind will forever remain in their hearts.

Bob is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda (Helt) Marty; daughters, Kaitlyn and Jessica; granddaughter, Layla; sisters, Lisa Strang, Renee (Bob) Bratton, Beth Marty (Tom Parrell) and Angie Marty; father-in-law, William Helt; mother-in-law, Virginia Helt; sisters-in-law, Sue (Jim) Hensen and Bonnie Helt; brothers-in-law, Mark (Katie) Helt, Gary (Diane) Helt, Victor (Dawn) Helt, Kevin (Jennifer) Helt and Bill (Liz) Helt; stepfather, Ray Schendel; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Korissa Marty; mother, Judy (Marty) Schendel; father, Morris Marty; and brothers-in-law, Neal Strang and Ken Helt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, with Father Brian Dulli presiding.
