Norma Delane (Nelson) Devine

MUSKEGO - Norma D. (nee Nelson) Devine, age 90, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024. She was born on December 19, 1933, in Stoughton to Alvie G. and Myrtle (Neath) Nelson.

Norma enjoyed growing up on the farm and being around all the animals. She often told funny stories about a pony named “Tricksie” and how naughty she was. Norma graduated from Whitewater State College in 1955 with a degree in Education, Grades K-3. It was at Whitewater she met her husband, John M. Devine. They married in 1956 and started their lifelong journey together. After graduation, Norma got a job in the Milwaukee Public School (MPS) system teaching grades 2-3, and eventually kindergarten, as she loved the little ones the best.

After retirement in 1995, she loved spending time with her three grandchildren, watching them grow up into adulthood. Norma also took on other hobbies such as joining the Sons of Norway, as Musician and Historian, for the Fosselyngen Lodge 82. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, John, over the years, taking several trips to Norway, Sweden, and Ireland. Norma learned the art of Rosemaling, making many lovely items which she has shared with family members. She spent time in her retirement years doing other activities including needlework, playing the piano, gardening, line dancing, writing several short stories and publishing a family legacy book.

Dear mother of five children, Cristina (Danny) Vasquez and Teresa (Daniel) Sem, and three deceased children, Patricia Carol, John Patrick, and Robert John; three grandchildren, Lucas, Camille, and Isaac Sem; and loving friend to many other family members, retired teachers, and neighbors.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Alvie G. and Myrtle; four brothers, Raymond, Alvie, Ronald, and Howard Nelson; and two sisters, Barbara (Nelson) Larson and Shirley (Nelson) Hanson.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at HOLY APOSTLES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 16000 W. National Avenue, New Berlin from 11 a.m. until 12 noon, with a church service and luncheon to follow.

An additional visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
