Obituary

MADISON - Steven Donald Dushek, age 66, of Madison, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at home. He was born on July 14, 1958, in Madison, the son of Donald and Lorraine (Nilles) Dushek.

Steve was a graduate of La Follette High School.  He married Laurie (Bald) in Madison. They were married for 38 years. He worked for the City of Madison, in the engineering department for over 20 years, retiring in 2022.

Steve was our rock, the foundation of our family. He was always willing to help others and could fix just about anything. Steve had a passion for the outdoors, loved fishing and hunting with lifelong friend, Dane Adkins. His happy place was at the Dushek cabin, sitting around the campfire sharing life stories to all that would listen. He loved to prepare meals on the grill and cooking for the family, anxiously awaiting feedback.

Steve is survived by his wife, Laurie; children, Brittany (Ryan) Bowar and Christina (Luis) Anchondo; grandchildren, Antonio, Aiden, Alayna, Ava and Arlene; canine companion, Freckles; siblings, Mary (Stan) Hedrick and Gina Krull; and many other friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Peter Dushek; parents-in-law, Robert and Joan; and brother-in-law, Keith Krull.

Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. Please come casual, as Steve would want it that way.

After Peter Dushek passed away (my grandpa) uncle Steve came to the house every day and helped my grandma take care of the property that we had. He had such a big heart. He was so creative and so talented. There was never a dull moment with him. I'll never forget everything that he had did for us. He was truly an amazing person, and he will be forever missed

It was always a privilege to stop and chat with Steve in the neighborhood when we were out walking our dogs, or over at the dog park.

My condolences to Steve’s family and friends. I am sorry. God bless you, Steve. I shared middle school life at St James with Steve. He was a cute quiet young man in our class of hooligans He didn’t cause any trouble like the rest of us. We were a close group of friends at St James graduating 8th grade in 1972. Basketball games against the other catholic schools in town sparked our grit and determination to be winners. Steve’s and my path split when we went to different high schools when I went to west. He had many talents and was super sweet. He was blessed with a great family - wonderful wife and children and grandchildren. His life was purposeful and those who know him shared his gift. Till we all meet again… Clare (Raynoha) Soden
