Sylvia welcomed me with her warm and winning smile when I became a new resident at Attic Angel just over three years ago. And she regaled me with her tales of her trips to Norway. Sylvia knew that the mayor of Oslo highly esteemed and was fascinated by the people and culture of our Native Americans. So, prior to one of her trips to Norway with a group she had organized, Sylvia went up to Wisconsin Dells and commissioned a full chief's headdress with which to surprise the mayor and thank him for hosting her and her group. An extravagant and creative gift--as warm and wonderful as her kindness to me.

I first met Sylvia while hosting lunch for Attic Angel residents at our home. I served eggplant rollatini, which was new to Sylvia. When leaving she said "I'm Norwegian, but intrigued by your Italian cooking." She asked for recommendation of a good Italian cookbook. I gave her one as a gift and she called me so excited saying "I MADE SPAGHETTI SAUCE!! That was a few years ago, and since then Sylvia became a close and very special friend. We had many good times together and I miss her every day.
