Obituary

MADISON - Beverly Louise “Bev” (Brogley) Klongland, age 93, of Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, November 9, 2024.

Bev was born on February 17, 1931, the daughter of Maynard and Nettie Brogley in Madison, Wis.  She graduated from Madison East High School, and later married fellow Purgolder, Richard “Dick” Klongland on June 20, 1951. Together they had two boys, Richard J. “Rick” Klongland and Randall D. “Randy” Klongland.

The family subsequently moved to Racine, Wis., allowing Dick to follow his career with State Farm Insurance Company. However, Dick passed away at the early age of 31, and in 1962, Bev and the boys moved back to Madison.

Bev worked for many years in administrative support for the Madison Public Schools, initially at the old Sherman Junior High School, and then at Gompers Middle School.  She made many life-long friendships working within the school system.

Bev was a good athlete growing up and excelled at softball.  She encouraged her boys to get involved in sports, even coaching their youth baseball teams.  “Coach Bev” made a positive impact on many young kids, way back in the 1960’s! Bev also enjoyed golfing, travelling, and playing a fun card game with her many good friends. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her 10 wonderful great-grandchildren! Bev enjoyed living the past 25 years in Westshire Village community in Waunakee.

Bev is survived by her son, Randall (Cindy) Klongland of Mauston, Wis., and their children, Ryan (Melanie) Klongland of Baraboo and Sarah (Mark) Borca of Hartland; and five great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Colton and Reagan of Baraboo, and Cade and Brooks of Hartland.

Bev is further survived by her daughter-in-law, Jeanne (Corcoran) Klongland of Sun Prairie, and her children, Chris Klongland (fiancée, Meagan Clark) of Sun Prairie, Rachel (Troy) Turek of Sun Prairie, Kelly (Scott) Schrimpf of Sun Prairie, and Reid Klongland of Sun Prairie; and five great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Austin James “AJ” Klongland of Sun Prairie, and Ty, Hudson and Gannon Turek of Sun Prairie.

Bev was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dick: parents, Maynard and Netter Brogley; brother, Jack Brogley; and wonderful son, Rick.

A celebration of life will be held at BUCK AND HONEY’S, 800 W. Broadway, Suite 300, Monona, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024. A private family burial ceremony will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Bev’s family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers at Talamore Senior Living facility in Sun Prairie, with special appreciation to Wendy and Kathy, and to the SSM Health at Home Hospice Care Team for their very kind and compassionate care for Bev.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

I worked for 9 years with Bev at Blackhawk Middle School when it was Gompers Middle School. Bev was outstanding at her job, taking on many more responsibilities than was usual for her position. She cared a lot about the kids and the teachers. Bev was also a great friend: warm and supportive and with a great sense of humor. I will always remember Bev with great affection.

I worked in Human Resources for the MMSD and communicated almost daily with Bev. She was always so helpful and efficient. It wasn't until I read her obituary that I realized I had another connection to Bev. Prior to my career at the MMSD, I worked for 15 years at the Madison Opportunity Center. There I worked with her brother, Jack. I loved that guy! So sweet.

Beverly was a cousin. Our dads were brothers. Bev and I spent a lot of time together right after Dick died. Even took a road trip to California with my parents. Great spirit!
