Obituary

BELLEVILLE - Barry Sievers passed away unexpectedly at the age of 55 on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Barry was born in Hof, Germany on April 15, 1969, to Sonja and David Sievers. The family moved to the United States when Barry was 4 years old. After living in Omaha, Neb., and Biloxi, Miss., they finally settled in Wisconsin. Barry graduated from DeForest High School in 1987, he then studied in La Crosse, receiving his degree in finance.


Barry began his career as an accountant with Physicians Plus Medical Group and the UW Medical Foundation. His research background started with the Jackson Foundation, the former research arm of the Physicians Plus Medical Group. In 2001, Barry joined the UW-Madison Office of Clinical Trials as the Finance Manager, where he oversaw all federal and non-federal research budgets on top of the department’s operations budget. Most recently, Barry held the title of Senior Financial Manager for the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he served since 2011.


Barry led an extremely active lifestyle and always excelled at everything he tried. Barry was an accomplished amateur motorcycle racer competing in several disciplines including sport bike road racing, motocross, and endurance offroad racing. Barry was also an accomplished triathlete competing in the Door County half Ironman in 2013. Among Barry’s sporting achievements some of his most proud moments came from his charitable work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the my TEAM Triumph group. Barry competed in a research fundraising event for JDRF in Colorado riding his bicycle a total of 100 miles with his close friends in 2017. Barry was an incredibly accomplished sportsman and his other hobbies included skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, snowmobiling, camping, pheasant and deer hunting, fishing, boating, and sport shooting.


Barry’s proudest moments were as a father. Barry is survived by his three children, his son, David T. Sievers (Jennifer De Leon), his first daughter, Addison Sievers, and his second daughter, Emma Sievers. Barry was also a loving son and brother survived by his mother, Sonja Henriksen and stepfather, Kerry Henriksen; and brother, Mark Sievers (Cindy Schlough). Barry is also survived by his extended family in Hof, Germany. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Liddi Lochner; and father, David Sievers.


A memorial service will take place at Gunderson Oregon Funeral and Cremation Care, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024. There will be a celebration of life at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Breakthrough T1D, (formerly Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), or the my Team Triumph group.
